Booked an appointment with us but not sure what to bring with you? Keep reading!

Before beginning the process of wedding dress shopping, it is totally normal to not know what to expect. As stylists at Angelica, we are here to guide you through every step of that process, providing you with the best bridal experience you could ever have dreamed of whilst bringing your wedding dress vision to life. That involves making sure that you feel totally prepared before attending your appointment with us, and that you have everything and everyone you need with you to help you make that all important wedding dress decision. To make life easier (we know wedding planning requires lots of research already!) we’ve decided to create this mini informative guide letting you know what you definitely shouldn’t leave your house without, before you embark on your bridal shopping journey!

Your closest family and friends (maximum of 3 guests!)

We completely appreciate that many brides want to bring as many guests as possible to a bridal appointment, as they of course want to share that magical moment of finding ‘the one’ with their loved ones. However, although it is great to hear what your guests think, too many opinions could potentially be distracting for you as the bride and you may end up feeling overwhelmed as opposed to excited. That’s why, in order to make the most of your Angelica Bridal experience, we recommend bringing three of your closest loved ones with you to make sure that your appointment runs as smoothly as possible. Whether you choose to bring your closest relatives, your maid of honour or a few members of your bridal squad, the most important thing is that you feel confident and supported throughout the process. Many of our brides also come by themselves for their appointment to solely focus on their own thoughts, which of course is perfectly fine too: your dedicated stylist will also be there to give you all of the advice you need, and of course be your hype girl and cheerleader for the day!

Nude, seamless underwear

The dreaded VPL (visible panty line!) is a fear for many brides to be, especially under an ivory gown, however one way to prevent the appearance of this during your bridal appointment is to make sure you are wearing the right underwear. If this is something that you are concerned about when wedding dress shopping, we would recommend wearing nude, seamless underwear, and this is so that you are able to get an accurate representation of how your gown will look on the day. You might prefer to opt for nude shapewear- this is completely up to you. The majority of our gowns are incredibly structured and supportive, therefore wearing a bra isn’t a requirement for trying on and they generally sit better without a bra. However, you will need to wear one for your stylist to be able to take measurements when figuring out your pattern size, so make sure you have a trusty bra, which gives support but isn’t too padded (no sports bras either!).

Inspiration photos

As bridal stylists, we adore looking through a bride’s wedding inspiration photos during a consultation! Whether this is a Pinterest board displaying your dream dresses, your favourite photographs of your wedding venue, or even a detailed mood board (usually the choice favoured by our most creative brides!) all of these things enable us as stylists to bring your unique bridal vision to life. If there is a particular style that you are leaning towards, it will
also be incredibly beneficial for you to have a look at our collections prior to your visit and let us know the styles that have caught your eye. So if you have time before your appointment, have a little scroll on our website (we know there are lots of dresses!) and if you find that there are some styles that are standing out to you, we are more than happy to have these all ready for you for when you arrive. However, if this feels too overwhelming at the moment, please don’t panic! Your stylist will also give you the opportunity to browse through our collections in person, and can also recommend styles for you based on your desired bridal aesthetic, body shape and overall vision. Often the “wildcard” that the stylist selects from the rails actually ends up being “the one”! A few days before your appointment you will receive an email asking a few questions about your wedding, we advise responding to this in advance so you can make the most of your one hour appointment.

An open mind

Many of our brides to be come to us with a very fixed idea of the gown that they desire to wear on their wedding day. Although it is amazing to have narrowed down a style, it is important to remember that this may change slightly as you begin to try the dresses on. For instance, you may have came in searching specifically for an embellished lace gown, but may perhaps end up falling in love with a minimalist satin gown instead. This is totally normal and we see it happen every day, so please don’t worry if this ends up being you! Of course wedding dresses are not something that we wear every day, so naturally we are less familiar with our desired bridal style. That’s why it’s so important to come in with an open mind, and most importantly, to focus on how you feel in the dress in that moment. If it makes you feel confident, amazing and happy, that is all that truly matters.

A family heirloom (if you are planning to wear one!)

This one may not apply to every bride, but if you are planning to incorporate a family heirloom into your bridal ensemble, like a relative’s veil or perhaps a piece of jewellery, we would highly recommend bringing this with you to your appointment. Having the item physically there will make it much easier for you to find the perfect dress to match!

Do I need shoes?

We don’t recommend bringing shoes to your appointment as the dresses are quite long, so for health and safety reasons we suggest standing on the podium. However, we do have some demonstration shoes you are welcome to test out. If you are taller than 5 ft 7, you may want to bring a pair of heels to see how much extra length you require on the gowns (if needed!)

So there you have it, that is everything that we would recommend for you to bring to your appointment with us. We know wedding planning can be an overwhelming process and bridal gown shopping can initially seem daunting, so hopefully this guide has made you feel more prepared for your appointment with us! Have some more questions? That’s absolutely fine: please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 020 7226 7823 or drop us an email at Our dedicated and friendly team of expert stylists are on hand to make sure you feel fully prepared for your upcoming appointment with us!

Bridal Stylist Maisie talks you through everything you need to know before your appointment at Angelica Bridal Curve

We may be biased, but we think that wedding dress shopping is one of the most exciting elements of wedding planning. That moment when you finally find the gown that brings your vision to life is what every bride longs for, and as stylists we are here to be your ultimate cheerleader and to support you in every step of the journey of finding ‘the one.’

Here at Angelica, we see wedding dress shopping as a rite of passage. As well as finding the perfect dress, it is also our mission to provide all our beautiful brides to be with a magical bridal experience that they will never forget.

We also understand that wedding dress shopping can be overwhelming. Whether you have been dreaming of your dress since you were little or have absolutely no idea what style you desire for your wedding day ensemble, it is completely normal to feel unsure of where to start or how to navigate the whole process.

To help you out, we have put together the ultimate bridal shopping guide, explaining everything you need to know before visiting us:

The Appointment Process

Upon arrival at our gorgeous Liverpool Road Boutique, you and your guests will be greeted by one of our friendly stylists who will look after you for the duration of your appointment. The stylist will ask you a few questions about your wedding and then guide you through the showroom, where you will have the opportunity to browse through and select the dresses you would like to try on. We have an extremely versatile collection, which means that there is something for every bride regardless of your style. This does mean however that you may feel slightly overwhelmed by the endless options, but please don’t panic: your expert stylist is there to recommend styles especially for you based on your wedding dress vision. Here’s the fun bit: once you have a selection, you are ready to start trying on and distinguish your bridal persona.

Shapes and silhouettes

One of the most important decisions when wedding dress shopping is determining the gown shape that you desire. There are two main silhouettes for you to choose from, and these are A line or fit and flare. These dresses are kept separate from each other within our showroom so that you are able to differentiate between the shapes easily.

A Line

An A-line gown is a classically beautiful choice, and is the go-to selection for the traditional meets romantic bride. This silhouette includes a combination of a fitted bodice and a fuller skirt, and is perfect for twirling in on the day! With A-line gowns, there are contrasting levels of fullness to select from, and the amount of volume in the skirt usually depends on the fabric: for instance, chiffon and tulle fabric will create a much softer look in comparison to Mikado or other fabrics with petticoats. Your stylist will guide you through the different fabric options and the levels of fullness available at your appointment, so that you can choose the one that is right for you!

Fit and Flare

A fit and flare gown is the ideal silhouette for the bride who wants to show off her curves, as she should! This style of gown will hug your figure up until the mid-thigh, before softly cascading to the floor. Despite being a more form fitting silhouette in comparison to A-line, the majority of our fit and flare gowns are incredibly soft, and will hug the natural curves of your body to create an effortlessly chic look.

At Angelica Curve, we are all about size inclusivity. We want to make the process as simple, and fun, as possible without having to worry about the fit and talking sizing numbers. If you really want the details; our collection is made up of a range of beautiful sample gowns in sizes 16-30, but standard sizes go up to 36 with some designers offering custom size options. It is not a problem in the slightest if you are not the sample size, it is very rare to have the perfect fit first time! Our stylists are all trained to pin you in, out and in all the right places to help you visualise the gown and help you look and feel your most fabulous. In your appointment you will most likely have your nearest and dearest guests, and although you love them, it’s not always fun talking sizing in front of them, that’s why we refrain from talking numbers throughout the appointment and even when it comes to choosing your gown size, we don’t have to announce this. Because quite frankly, who cares about your dress size when you look THAT DAMN GOOD!? Its confusing enough when you’re a different size in each high street shop, so we don’t even compare it to the bridal industry where you most likely aren’t going to be the high street equivalent and bridal designers are all different too.

In the past, all wedding dresses used to be just one colour, which was of course white. Now however, although upon initially peering at the rails it may seem like a sea of white dresses, there are several shades to choose from. From a brilliant white to a champagne or blush hue, the option of colours available are entirely dependent on the designer and what colours they have carefully selected that specific style to be in. You may be thinking, well what if the dress I love isn’t available to try on in the colour I want? That’s where your stylist comes in! If you’re looking at a gown with sheer top skirt layers; your stylist will be able to pin a contrasting colour fabric underneath the outer layer of the gown, and this will allow you to imagine how it will look in your desired shade. Alternatively, we can use the other gowns from each designer to help you visualize your look. We can get very creative in these appointments to help you uncover your dream bridal look!

 Alterations and adjustments

You may find yourself in a situation where you’ve found a beautiful dress, but it just needs a couple of tweaks to make it perfect. Although of course we can’t completely change a design of a gown, there are several ways in which tailors or the designers themselves can work their magic. During your bridal appointment, your expert stylist can demonstrate how these tweaks will look. For instance, if you love the idea of sleeves, your stylist can pin different sleeve styles on to bring the vision to life. Or, if perhaps the neckline is a tad plunging, your stylist can pin extra lace onto your bodice to create a more modest look. If in doubt, speak with your stylist and they will be able to advise and demonstrate the plethora of options available. These tweaks can make your gown unique to you and the perfect match for your wedding day.

So there you have it: that was everything you need to know before you attend your appointment with us here at Angelica Bridal Curve. Our aim is to ensure that you find the dress that makes you feel happy, confident, and, most importantly, like yourself! And hopefully, this guide has provided you with everything you know before you begin your journey of finding that dress. Still have some questions? Please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 020 7226 7823, or drop us an email at , we are always happy to help, and we can’t wait to meet you and find you the perfect dress!

The short wedding dress has surged in popularity again recently, with many brides now considering one or two additional dresses for use outside of the main ceremony, such as their engagement party and the reception part of the wedding day.

Here we answer some of the common questions we are asked in relation to short wedding dresses.

What is a short wedding dress?

A short wedding dress is a dress that typically falls above the knees and is often chosen by brides who wish to have a more relaxed, playful, or modern look for their post-ceremony celebrations. While traditional wedding gowns are typically long and can be cumbersome for dancing and mingling, a shorter dress offers ease of movement and a fun twist to their ceremony dress. These dresses can range from simple and elegant to sparkly and festive, depending on the bride’s personal style.

What styles of short dress are suitable for the engagement party?

For engagement parties, dress styles encompass a variety of looks, ranging from classic to contemporary. A-line dresses provide a universally flattering silhouette, while shift or sheath dresses offer a sleeker, modern vibe. Wrap dresses can give a romantic, feminine touch, while off-shoulder or skater styles add a youthful flair. Lace, floral patterns, or delicate embellishments can lend a celebratory feel. Ultimately, it depends on the formality of your engagement party – cocktail dresses are ideal for semi-formal events, while more casual gatherings might call for simpler, laid-back styles.

What style of short wedding dress is best suited to the reception?

For the wedding reception, the ideal short wedding dress is one that combines style with ease of movement, as you will need to mingle and dance the night away. Cocktail-length dresses, which fall just above the knee, are a popular choice due to their chic yet fun aesthetic. Fit-and-flare or A-line silhouettes can be especially flattering, allowing for movement without restriction. Brides might also consider dresses with less intricate detailing to ensure comfort throughout the evening. The key is selecting a dress that complements the reception’s vibe, whether it’s a glamorous soirée or a relaxed backyard gathering, while allowing you to move freely and confidently.

Some example short wedding dress styles, available through Angelica Bridal.

Do short wedding dresses suit people of a certain height?

Short wedding dresses can suit individuals of any height. While it’s often believed that shorter dresses are ideal for taller brides, with the right design and fit, they can flatter brides of all statures. Petite brides might find that certain styles, like empire waists or vertical detailing, can elongate their appearance. Meanwhile, taller brides might gravitate toward dresses that emphasise their long legs. The key is in the dress’s proportions, silhouette, and where it hits on the leg. With proper tailoring and attention to detail, a short wedding dress can be a stunning choice for brides of any height.

What sort of accessories are best suited to short wedding dresses?

When accessorising a short wedding dress, the focus often shifts to shoes, as they are prominently displayed. Statement heels or embellished flats can elevate the outfit. Jewellery choices can vary based on the dress’s neckline and sleeve length; for example, a strapless dress might pair well with a bold necklace, while a higher neckline could be complemented by drop earrings. Hair accessories, such as tiaras, hairpins, or floral crowns, add a touch of romance. Depending on the dress’s style and the bride’s preference, a sash or a belt can accentuate the waist. The key is to balance statement pieces with subtler details to complement, not overshadow, the dress.

Can you help me find the perfect short wedding dress?

Absolutely, yes, we can! Whether you’re thinking of a short wedding dress for your engagement party, the reception, or the dance, we can help you find a style that’s perfect just for you. Get in touch with our friendly London team for further advice or to book an appointment at our bridal store.

Finding the perfect wedding dress can be a challenge for women of all shapes and sizes. While finding the right dress is often about personal style and preference, the perfect gown should also highlight your unique body shape. For plus size brides, certain dress styles can enhance your curves and flaunt your figure beautifully. Here we take a closer look at the styles our team often recommend to customers at our Curve store in Islington.

Ballgown Style Wedding Dresses

Ballgown wedding dresses are characterised by a fitted bodice and a dramatically full skirt that flares out at the waist. This iconic style is perfect for brides who dream of a fairy tale wedding. For plus size brides, a ballgown style can be exceptionally flattering as it cinches in at the smallest part of the waist and cascades outwards, creating a beautiful hourglass silhouette. The voluminous skirt helps balance out the proportions of the body, and it also provides the option of choosing a gown with a dramatic train.

A-Line Style Wedding Dresses

An A-line wedding dress, named for the shape it creates, is fitted at the top and gradually flares out from the waist, resembling the shape of the letter ‘A’. This style is universally flattering and is a superb choice for plus size women. It cinches at the waist and flares gracefully to the ground, which creates a streamlined silhouette. A-line gowns can also be customised with various necklines, sleeves, and embellishments, allowing each bride to find a design that resonates with her personal style.

Mermaid Style Wedding Dresses

Mermaid wedding dresses, also known as fit-and-flare dresses, are fitted through the bodice and hips and flare out around or just below the knee. This style is ideal for plus size brides who want to highlight their curves. Mermaid gowns accentuate the bust, waist, and hips, which is perfect for those who want to flaunt their figure on their big day. This style is all about confidence and can be customised with different fabrics and embellishments to match the bride’s personal taste.

Empire Style Wedding Dresses

Empire wedding dresses are defined by a raised waistline that sits just below the bust, from which the rest of the dress flows down to the hem. This style can help elongate the body’s appearance, making it an excellent choice for plus size brides. Empire wedding dresses also provide ample coverage and comfort, which can be a bonus for brides who prefer a more modest look. These dresses can be designed with various fabrics and detailing, from lacy sleeves to intricate beading, offering a multitude of options for customisation.

Sheath Style Wedding Dresses

Sheath wedding dresses are designed to fall straight down from the neckline to the hem, with little flare out. This style, also known as a column dress, closely follows the body’s natural shape and can create a longer, leaner look. For plus size women, a sheath dress can be a great option to showcase your curves subtly. This style often features lightweight, flowing fabrics like silk and chiffon, which drape beautifully over the body without adding extra volume. It’s an ideal choice for brides seeking a simple yet elegant look.

Are you currently searching for the perfect curvy wedding dress to make you feel special on your big day? If so, we’ve put together some answers to common questions that we get from brides-to-be. We hope this helps you in your journey to find the perfect, flattering dress.

What is a plus size wedding dress?

Plus-size bridal dresses are wedding dresses designed specifically for brides who wear larger sizes, typically starting at size 16 in the UK (or 12 in the US) and going up. These dresses are designed to fit and flatter curvy women. They come in a variety of styles and designs to suit different tastes and preferences.

What types of wedding dresses are best suited to plus size brides?

There are many different styles of wedding dress that are flattering to plus size women. Whilst it generally depends on your body shape and personal preference, here are some of the popular styles that we frequently recommend:

  • A-line wedding dresses – A-line dresses have a fitted bodice and a skirt that gradually flares out, resembling the shape of the letter “A”. This style is universally flattering and can help balance out wider hips.
  • Ballgown wedding dresses – Ballgown style dresses have a fitted bodice and a full, voluminous skirt that falls to the floor. This style can help create an hourglass shape and is ideal for those who want a dramatic, fairytale-inspired look.
  • Empire wedding dresses – These types of dresses have a high waistline that sits just below the bust, with a flowing, relaxed skirt that skims over the hips and thighs. This style can help elongate the body and is ideal for those who want a comfortable and relaxed fit.
  • Mermaid wedding dresses – Mermaid dresses are fitted through the bodice and hips and flare out at the bottom, creating a dramatic, hourglass silhouette. This style is ideal for those who want to show off their curves and create a statement look.
  • Sheath wedding dresses – Sheath wedding dresses are fitted through the entire body, with a straight or slightly flared skirt that falls to the floor. This style can help elongate the body and is ideal for those who want a sleek and elegant look.

These are just a few of the styles of dress that we often recommend at Angelica Bridal Curve. Ultimately, it’s important to choose a dress that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful on your special day.

Are there any styles of wedding dress that plus size brides should avoid?

It’s important to note that every bride is different and what might not be suitable for one bride may work perfectly for another. However, here are some general tips on wedding dress styles that may not be as flattering for some plus size brides:

  • Extremely fitted dresses – Dresses that are extremely fitted or have a lot of boning may not be as comfortable or flattering for some brides, as they can highlight areas that the bride may not want to draw attention to.
  • High-necked dresses – Dresses with high necklines may not be as flattering for some plus size brides, as they can create the appearance of a shorter neck and a wider upper body.
  • Dresses with a lot of volume – Dresses with a lot of volume, including some types of ballgown dresses with a lot of layers, may not be as flattering for some curvy brides, as they can add extra bulk to the body and make the bride appear larger.
  • Short dresses – Short wedding dresses may not be as flattering for some brides, as they can create the appearance of shorter legs and a wider lower body.

Again, it’s important to state that these are just general tips. Every bride is unique and personal style always plays an important role when choosing a dress.

How can I make sure I don’t look frumpy in my wedding dress?

The Angelica Bridal Curve team take great care in helping you to find a wedding dress that is flattering, comfortable, and makes you look fabulous. However, here are some tips for making sure you don’t look frumpy on your special day.

  • Making sure you have the right fit – The key to avoiding a frumpy look is to find a dress that fits well and flatters your body shape. Choose a dress that accentuates your best features and fits well in areas where you may feel less confident.
  • Choose a style that suits your body shape – Different dress styles work better for different body shapes, so choose a style that flatters your figure. Our Curve team store can help you choose a style if you are not sure which is best suited to your body shape.
  • Don’t be afraid to show some skin – You can still look elegant and modest while showing some skin. Consider dresses with illusion necklines, deep V-necklines, or backless designs that can add some interest and sex appeal without being too revealing.
  • Choose the right fabric – Certain fabrics can make a dress look frumpy, so choose fabrics that drape nicely and move with your body, such as chiffon or silk. Again, our team can help you select the right fabrics for you.
  • Accessorise strategically – Accessories can make or break an outfit, so choose accessories that complement your dress and flatter your body shape. Avoid oversized accessories that can overwhelm your look.
  • Get alterations if necessary – Alterations can make a huge difference in how a dress looks and fits. Make sure to schedule fittings and alterations well in advance of your wedding day to ensure a perfect fit.
