These are the standout styles to watch out for in your wedding dress search
Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week has just finished its 2026 season, where a plethora of designers showcased their latest collections. Our team were incredibly excited to attend the event, where they handpicked the gowns that will grace our rails next season and attended catwalk shows to see the gowns moving across the runways.
With the endless number of gowns presented, it can be easy to be overwhelmed by the range of styles on offer, especially as a bride to be when footage of the shows is taking over your social media feed. Of course you’ll never want to feel fully dictated by trends, however if you’re seeking a bridal look that feels fashion forward, it can be helpful to know the key trends set to take the spotlight for the upcoming bridal season.
Our team saw many different styles coming into prevalence, but these are the trends that really stood out for us. From bejewelled gowns to modern minimalism, the Barcelona runways truly had something for every bride:
1. Texture
For the brides who aren’t a fan of lace but are seeking a bridal look with added interest, a great way to achieve this is to opt for a textured wedding dress. Designers such as Watters and Justin Alexander showcased captivating textured gowns on the catwalks using fabrics such as pleated soft tulle and organza to reimagine traditional satin and mikado, creating fluidity and movement without sacrificing any element of grandeur.
Our favourite textured wedding dress currently has to be our Watters Cornelia gown: featuring a sculpting Basque waist adorned with hand draped pleats complete with a dramatic crinoline ballgown skirt, she is a true showstopper and is ideal for the bride seeking a look that balances ethereality with modern maximalism.
2. Ballgowns
If you desire to embrace your inner Cinderella on your wedding day, look no further than the ballgown silhouette. A timeless favourite amongst brides, ballgowns were everywhere on the catwalks this season, with each designer displaying their own unique take on the classic silhouette. Tulle ballgowns exuded ethereality on the runways, but simultaneously, structured satin styles remained prevalent. There is a definite sense of duality in bridal fashion currently, with the co-existence of both elaborate, embellished lace and clean minimalist lines, but the great thing is that both aesthetics complement a ballgown skirt beautifully.
One of our favourite ballgowns here at Angelica Bridal is our Keegan gown by Justin Alexander. Characterised by its grand Mikado skirt, glistening lace detailing and sculpting external boning, this Basque waist ballgown is the epitome of sophistication, and perfectly balances classical elegance with a contemporary flair.
3. Taffeta
Synonymous with vintage bridal gowns, taffeta is the perfect fabric for the bride envisioning a timeless, sophisticated look. Whether styled in a classic ball gown or a modern A-line design, taffeta adds a regal touch that photographs beautifully and it’s structure means it’s will guaranteed to maintain its shape throughout your big day. And it was everywhere this bridal fashion week: showcased in sculptural drop-waist gowns and voluminous skirts to sleek fit and flare styles with oversized bows and dramatic trains, designers embraced taffeta for its ability to deliver both modern drama and old-world romance.
Watters’ Sunny gown is the perfect example of how taffeta can elevate a minimalist design. The drop-waist bodice flatters the silhouette whilst lending a modern edge, and the delicate bows adorning the train enhance the gown’s romantic vintage charm.
4. Separates
Here at AB, we are obsessed with bridal separates, because not only are they playful and unique, their detached bodices make it very easy to re-wear elements of your bridal ensemble beyond your big day. So we were thrilled to see them dominating the catwalks this Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week in a multitude of forms, such as short dresses, sleek, minimalist styles and grand ballgowns.
And if there is any designer that know how to nail a bridal separate, it’s Merve Kurman. Renowned for her corsetry and fine, delicate laces incorporated into contemporary silhouettes, the up and coming Turkish designer has a range of separates within her collection, one being her Bellatrix gown. A standout style ideal for the fashion forward bride, Bellatrix comprises of a glistening Chantilly lace fit and flare skirt and a drop waist satin bodice adorned with neckline lace detailing.
5. Clean lines and minimalism
Despite the dominance of maximalism and adornments in excess, we also saw a plethora of minimalist styles on the catwalks, a clear message that clean lines and understated elegance continue to hold a timeless appeal to contemporary brides. Justin Alexander and Watters presented several standout styles within their latest collections that were incredibly striking and impactful: proving that less can truly be more when it comes to bridal.
If you’re seeking a minimalist gown with an eye catching, contemporary edge, Madi Lane’s Noon gown should definitely be on your radar. Crafted with a luxurious Mikado fabric, this gown features a cat eye neckline, sculpting princess seams and a dramatic pleated skirt. Complete with fabric buttons that trickle all the way down to the end of the train, this minimalist creation by Madi Lane is made special through it’s finer details that elevate its overall look of simplicity.
